Every winter we find ourselves in government budget lockups, crunching the numbers to see how proposed public spending for that year breaks down by age. And every year, we see more and more public spending being gobbled up by medical care, without much public debate.

At the same time, proposals to invest more in younger Canadians are met with significant resistance and arguments that "the cupboard is bare."  

Canada's universal medical care system is a source of pride and a cherished aspect of our national identity. However: 

"We're spending too much to get too little, we're focusing on health care instead of health, and we're burdening younger Canadians with public debt and inadequate investment."

So we partnered with two co-authors to publish this commentary in the Canadian Journal of Public Health.
